Lynx improve to 5-0 with 3-0 win over Maine-Farmington

CAMBRIDGE, MA – Behind a goal and two assists from sophomore Alexis Giusti, Lesley University improved to 5-0-0 to open 2012 with a 3-0 win over visiting Maine-Farmington in non-conference women's soccer play.

The teams played scoreless soccer through the first 45 minutes before the Lynx turned up the heat for three goals in under seven minutes. Hayley Wirth netted her second of the season off of an Giusti corner kick that sailed deep into the box from the far right corner for the freshman to pull into the top left of the net at 57:38.

Five minutes later, Giusti landed her third goal of the year, beating her defender on a one-on-one move and connecting from 18 yards out in the top left of the goalkeeper box into the right corner of the net. Another Giusti corner resulted in a goal at 64:17, when she spotted Kate Ryder in front of the keeper in the center of the net. The senior landed her first goal of the year and the Lynx season-high third of the game, sealing the 3-0 victory.

Emileigh Lloyd  made two saves in 80-plus minutes of shutout goalkeeping.

For the Beavers, Beth Lebel made eight saves in net.

The Lynx outshot the Beavers 20-2, including 16-0 in the second half. Lesley has outscored its opponents 5-0 in the last two second periods and 11-0 on the season.

Lesley returns to action a week from Tuesday in non-conference play at Endicott.
