Lynx women's soccer makes a difference at Cradles to Crayons

BOSTON, MA -- Lesley women's soccer took time out of its preseason training schedule to volunteer at Cradles to Crayons, a Boston non-profit that aids children and families in need.

The Lynx 25 women's soccer student-athletes volunteered at the organization's Brighton location. According to the non-profit's website, "Cradles to Crayons provides children from birth through age 12 living in homeless or low-income situations with the essential items they need to thrive - at home, at school and at play." Lesley's women's soccer students sorted enough clothing to provide 189 children with a one-week wardrobe.

Senior co-captain Kelsey Fitzgerald called it "not only eye-opening but also a great team bonding experience," and freshman Isabella Vidana agreed.

"It was not only a good bonding experience for our team, but it was a good opportunity to help and serve the community," said Vidana. "I definitely plan on volunteering again and also donating toys and clothes there."

Classmate and teammate Jackie Berard echoed Vidana's thoughts.

"It was a really great experience being able to give back to those in need. What made it even more special was the idea that we were able to do it as a team."

Cradles to Crayons accepts volunteers and donations at its Boston warehouse at 155 Beacon Street in Brighton, 02135. The organization can be reached at 617-779-4700. Find the organization online at cradlestocrayons.org.

The Lynx open 2012 a week from today, on Friday, August 31 at Suffolk at 1:00 p.m. Lesley was yesterday picked to again finish in first place in the NECC preseason coaches poll.
