Lynx soccer teams conduct clinics for America SCORES

Quincy, MA -- The Lesley University men's and women's soccer teams traveled to Quincy, MA on Friday, August 26th to participate in their annual community service project with America SCORES.

The teams collaborated with SCORES, a non-profit soccer and literacy organization, to run a soccer clinic for nearly 80 inner city children attending Camp Harbor View. Children ranging from ages 8 to 17 from throughout Boston participated in Harbor View's eight week program, with America SCORES soccer camp being held during its final week and Lesley's teams conducting clinics Friday.

"I could do this kind of work everyday," said Kelsey Fitzgerald, a junior on the Lynx women's soccer team and Upton, MA native. "I can't wait to go back."

Campers were separated into three stations, with every station monitored by Lesley players who conducted dribbling drills, small-sided scrimmages and relay races. Stations had 15 men's and women's Lesley players playing along side the campers and giving coaching points for a two-hour session at Camp Harbor View's Quincy Facility.

According to the organization's website, "The mission of America SCORES Boston is to empower youth in Boston communities through an innovative combination of soccer leagues, writing, creative expression, and service-learning into a single after-school program."

The Lynx teams return to Quincy on Thursday, as both teams play Eastern Nazarene College in their respective season openers. The Lynx men take on the Lions at 4:30 p.m. before the women open 2011 at 7:00.
