Lesley rowers earn medals at Textile River Regatta

LOWELL, Mass. - The Lesley University crew team had their most successful race thus far in the 2008 fall season as several rowers earned medals at the Textile River Regatta last weekend.

Almost every rower who raced came home with a medal, and the team had an event better record at the end of the day than they had last year.

The morning started off with the Women's Open 2x made up of Jackie Barnes (Lenox, Mass.) and Becca Koval (Sherman, Conn.).  They ended with a surprising second place finish behind Duxbury Bay Maritime School A with a time of 27:33, narrowly defeating third place by seven seconds.  Barnes and Koval walked away from the race with a silver medal.

The lightweight four made up of coxswain Laura Davis (Andover, Mass.), Kate Buckley (Glastonbury, Conn.), Siobhan Pierce (Ayer, Mass.), Barnes, and Isabel Arathoon (Cambridge, Mass.) also had a successful race.  They finished third behind Community Rowing, Inc. and UMass-Amherst.

Finally, the open four made up of coxswain Danica Aldrich (Providence, R.I.), Buckley, Arathoon, Pierce, and Koval finished in 25th place in a very competitive race.  The girls finished behind Massachusetts Maritime Academy.

The crew team will next race at the Head of the Housatonic in Shelton, Connecticut on Saturday, October 11.
