THE LEAD – The Lesley University softball's teams bats came to life on Friday afternoon after the squad earned its first sweep of the season taking down VTSU Johnson 9-1 in game one, and 13-2 in game two.
HOW IT HAPPENED (GM 1)
- Both sides pitching staffs were on point throughout the first three innings as neither side was able to put up any runs. VTSU threatened in the first inning as the visitors had runners on first and third with just one out. However, Lesley starter Emma Hodgkins (Raymond, N.H.) escaped the jam by retiring the next two batters via pop out and ground out to keep things at zero.
- After Hodgkins and the Lynx defense held the Badgers scorless in top of the fourth, Lesley finally broke the scoreless tie in the bottom half of the frame thanks to Hodgkins who ripped an RBI double to a gap in left center that allowed Sydney McAvoy (Billerica, Mass.) and Leah St. John (New Ipswich, N.H.) to score after McAvoy reached on a fielders choice and St. John drew a walk earlier.
- The Lynx would go on to tack on three more runs in the bottom of the fifth courtesey of RBIs from Madison Herbert (Milford, N.H.) and Shae Thomas (Clayton, N.C.). However, it was the sixth inning where Lesley did its most damage with a four-run frame which was highlighted by a St. John two-run RBI to left that brought in McAvoy and Thomas which resulted in a 9-1 mercy rule win.

- Three different Lynx finished with two RBIs (Hodgkins, St. John, and Thomas).
- On the mound, Hodgkins was stellar in the win going 4.2 IP allowing just three hits and striking out a career-high nine batters.

- Hanna Corvino got the start for VTSU Johnson and in the loss, she went 4.0 IP allowed four hits and four runs but struck out eight.
- For the fourth time this year, Lesley has scored at least five runs and in those games, the Lynx are 4-0.
HOW IT HAPPENED (GM 2)
- In game two, it was the Badgers who struck first in the top of the first thanks to a Gabi Lafreniere RBI single for the quick 1-0 lead. However, the Lynx responded in the bottom half of the inning after Martin tied things at one with an RBI that allowed Hodgkins to score after she singled to right earlier in the inning. In the next at-bat, Kari Sorensen (Thousand Oaks, Calif.) would take advantage of a passed ball and give the Lynx a 2-1 lead going into the second.
- After Herbert retired the side in the second which included two strikeouts, the Lynx bats continued where they left off in game one put up a four-run second which was highlighted by a bases clearing three-run RBI double which then made it 6-1.
- Lesley put the game out of reach in the third thanks to a seven-run third inning which featured RBIs fom Herbert, McAvoy, Hodgkins, Sorensen, Moscoso, and two from Thomas which made it 13-1 going into the fourth. From then on, Herbert kept the VTSU bats quiet by allowing just one hit and striking out two between the fourth and fifth for the 13-1 run rule victory.
