THE LEAD –  After a quick day's worth of rest, the Lesley University softball team was back out on the field in a road doubleheader against Bay Path University where the Lynx unfortunately fell to the Wildcats 10-2 in game one, and 10-5 in game two. 

HOW IT HAPPENED (GM 1)

  • Lesley struck first in Wednesday's opener thanks to an RBI double courtesy of Lauren Martin (Lexington, Mass.) that allowed Kari Sorensen (Thousand Oaks, Calif.) to score after she singled earlier in the frame.
  • However, in the bottom half of the first, the Wildcats responded with a three-run inning highlighted by an RBI from Ansley Morrison that made it 3-1. After a scoreless second inning, the Lynx would pull within one thanks to a Bay Path fielding miscue that allowed Soresen to score after she singled to lead off the third.
  • Despite being within one, the hosts utlized a five-run fourth to increase their lead to six (8-2) which included a three-run RBI double from Morrison. Bay Path would tack on two more runs in the fifth behind RBIs from Madison Tessmer and Madison Sunderland to make it a 10-2 game resulting in a run rule final.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS (GM 1)

  • Martin has now notched at least one RBI in three-straight games and currently leads the team with 11.
  • On the mound, Emma Hodgkins (Raymond, N.H.) was dealt the loss after going 3.0 IP allowing five runs (four earned) and giving up five hits while striking out one.
  • For Bay Path, Morrison guided the offense with four RBIs on the day. 
  • Wildcats starter got the win going all 5.0 IP alloiwng six hits and two runs (one earned) while striking out two.

HOW IT HAPPENED (GM 2)

  • Bay Path would get on the board first in game two thanks to an RBI single from Sunderland to make it 1-0 after one. However, Lesley responded in the top half of the second thanks to an RBI double from Shae Thomas (Clayton, N.C.) which allowed Madison Herbert (Milford, N.H.) to cross the plate after she singled earlier that inning. 
  • After a two-run inning for the Wildcats, Lesley once again tied the contest courtesey of a two-run RBI triple off the bat of Jess O'Neill (Reading, Mass.) which made it a 3-3 ballgame. However, Bay Path would retake the lead scoring a combined three runs between the fourth and fifth innings to go up 6-3 going into the sixth. 
  • Lesley would get two-runs (6-5) back in the sixth thanks to a solo shot from Hodgkins and later that inning, Herbet would end up scoring after taking advantage of a passed ball from the Bay Path catcher. 
  • Despite going into the bottom half of the sixth down two, Bay Path once again utilized a high-scoring inning by plating four-runs to go up 10-4. Sunderland highlighted the offense that inning with a two-run home run that made it 8-5 at the time. Going into the final inning, Bay Path would retire the side and end up securing the 10-5 win in game two.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS (GM 2)

  • O'Neill tied her season-high in RBIs with two.
  • Thomas had a career day at the plate going a perfect 3/3 which included her first career RBI as well. Her three hits on the day were also a career-high.
  • Herbert got the loss for Lesley in the start after going all 6.0 IP and allowing 16 hits and 10 runs while striking out six batters.
  • Sunderland led both sides of the ball for Bay Path in game two. Offensively, she led the Wildcats with three RBIs. On the mound, she had a complete game going 7.0 IP allowing 10 hits and five runs (four earned) while striking out seven.
