THE LEAD – In their first games back from Florida, the Lesley University softball team headed to Weston, Mass. for a doubleheader with Regis College. Unfortunately, the Lynx fell to the Pride 9-1 in game one, and 13-3 in game two.

HOW IT HAPPENED (GM 1)

  • Regis opened the scoring in the first game Tuesday thanks to a three-run bottom of the first for a quick 3-0 lead. Later, in the top half of the third, Lesley got on the board and cut the deficit to two (3-1). With two outs in the inning and runners on first and second, Lauren Martin (Lexington, Mass.) ripped an RBI single to right and plated Isabella Moscoso (El Cajon, Calif.) after she singled earlier that inning.
  • After a scoreless fourth inning, Lesley threatened in the top of the fifth when the squad had runners on first and third after Jess O'Neill (Reading, Mass.) reached on a fielder's choice, advancing Moscoso to third. Unfortunately, Regis pitcher Gabriella Blanchard got out of the jam when she forced a ground out to end the Lynx threat.
  • In the bottom half of the frame, that's when the Pride did the most damage by posting a six-run inning to go up 9-1 and forcing the mercy rule into effect. Grace Motto highlighted the inning for Regis with a two-run RBI double to left that made it 5-1 at the time.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS (GM 1)

  • Martin led the Lesley offense with her sixth RBI of the season. She has now driven in a run in her last four games.
  • Two different Regis hitters recorded two RBIs on the day (Mel Rees and Motto).
  • Lesley starter Madison Herbert (Milford, N.H.) was dealt with the loss in game one. Herbert went 4.2 IP, allowed 12 hits and nine runs while striking out a batter.
  • For the Pride, starting pitcher Mya Gaspie got the win after 4.1 IP and allowed just three hits and one run while fanning four.

HOW IT HAPPENED (GM 2)

  • In the second game, it was the Lynx who struck early this time with a three-run first. Kari Sorensen (Thousand Oaks, Calif.) got the scoring started with an RBI single that found its way through the left side, which brought home Moscoso after she hit a lead-off single. In the next at-bat, Martin gave the Lynx their second run with an RBI single down the right field line, bringing home Leah St. John (New Ipswich, N.H.), who doubled earlier. Lesley's third run was driven in by an O'Neill sacrifice fly.
  • However, Regis responded the bottom half of the first with a three-run inning of its own after Kristen Galvin tied the game with an RBI triple to right.
  • From then on, it was all Regis, as the hosts had two four-run innings in the second and fourth, which ultimately gave the Pride a 13-3 win after five. In the second, Abby Erickson highlighted the offense with a bases-clearing three-run RBI double, which made it 6-3 at the time. Later in the fourth, Samantha Kelepouris showcased the offense with a two-run RBI triple, making it 12-3.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS (GM 2)

  • Three different Lynx recorded an RBI in the second game, including Sorensen, Martin, and O'Neill.
  • Sorensen also tied her season-high in hits with two on Tuesday.
  • Lesley saw both Herbet and Moscoso on the mound in game two, with Moscoso taking the loss. After coming in for Herbet after 1.1 IP, Moscoso finished the day going 2.2 IP while allowing seven hits and eight runs. Tuesday also marked the pitching debut for Moscoso as well.
  • Regis starter Kate Jullien tossed a complete game while allowing just five hits and two earned runs and striking out nine.
