THE LEAD – Lesley University dropped a pair of NCAA Division III Softball contests Wednesday morning action at the Gene Cusic Classic. The Lynx dropped a highly contested affair to Rockford University, 5-2, before Wisconsin-Superior University pulled away in game two by a 13-2 final.
HOW IT HAPPENED (GM 1 vs. Rockford)
- The Regents struck first, scoring three in the bottom of the first which proved to be the difference in a well-played contest by both sides.
- Rockford bumped the lead to 5-0 in the third on a two-RBI single through the left side by Chayton Krueger for some insurance.
- The Lynx continued to battle, getting on the board in the sixth with a pair to cut the lead to 5-2. Grad second baseman Jess O'Neill and sophomore catcher Leah St. John collected RBI singles in the frame but a 4-6-3 double-play by the Regents ended any threat of a big inning for Lesley who settled for just the two.
- RU held on for the 5-2 win as Claire Shanahan pitched a scoreless seventh to preserve the win.

HOW IT HAPPENED (GM 2 vs. Wis.-Superior)
- The Yellowjackets pushed three unearned runs across in the first to jump out to an early 3-0 lead powered by a two-RBI single to center field by Baylee O'Donnell.
- Wis.-Superior took advantage of another LU error in the third to bump the lead to 4-0 as O'Donnell had her at-bat extended thanks to a dropped foul ball, making Lesley pay with an RBI base-knock up the middle.
- Lesley also benefited from a fielding miscue in the fourth to get on the board as St. John came all the way around from first to score on a throwing error to move the needle to 4-1.
- The Yellowjackets got two more runs in both the fifth and sixth inning to extend the lead to 8-1 before the Lynx pushed its final run of the day across in the bottom of the sixth on a sacrifice fly by junior pitcher Madison Herbert to make it 8-2.
