CAMBRIDGE, MA. -- Lesley Softball graduate pitcher and third baseman Jordan Day has been named the New England Collegiate Conference Co-Player of the Year. She shares the honor with Mitchell College's freshman shortstop Gemma Landry.
Day led the entire nation in batting average at the end of her regular season, collecting 56 hits in 98 at-bats for an incredible .571 clip. She finished just .006 points ahead of St. Joseph's (L.I.)'s Jenna DeFina to rank number one across all of Division III.
Day led the NECC in batting average, on-base percentage, slugging percentage, and runs batted in (50, with second place eleven RBI behind her), finished second in doubles (17) and home runs (8), and third in hits at the plate. On the mound, Day went 11-6 over sixteen complete games and 101 innings pitched. She led the conference in overall ERA with a 3.33 mark and finished second in ERA in conference games. She finished second in total strikeouts and first in strikeouts in conference games.
Over her graduate season, Day reached several personal milestones. She broke the program record for most career home runs, finishing with a total of 32. She recorded her 200th career hit, 150th career RBI, and 400th career strikeout on the mound.
In addition to the big honor, Day was one of four Lynx named to the NECC All-Conference Team. She was voted the top third baseman in the conference, while senior Ilana Zack was named as the catcher, senior Lindsey Jensen earned one of the outfield spots, and freshman Megan Murphy took the utility position.
Zack finished tenth in the conference in batting average at .352, with fourteen runs batted in and five stolen bases. She was nearly perfect behind the plate, committing only one error and throwing out three baserunners. Jensen had the best offensive season of her career, hitting .299 with two home runs, one of which was a grand slam, and driving in fifteen runs.
Murphy was a valuable asset during a season in which the Lynx had several players miss time. Murphy logged innings as a designated player, second baseman, catcher, left field, and right field. She hit .267 and drove in five runs, while scoring twenty times batting from the second spot for the majority of the season. Murphy's versatility and willingness to play anywhere also earned her the honor of representing the Lynx on the Del Malloy Sportsmanship Team.
