GAME OVERVIEW:

REVERE, MA. – The Lesley Lynx Softball team split a non-conference doubleheader with the UMass Boston Beacons on Wednesday night. The Lynx lost game one 10-2 in five innings, but returned the favor with a 15-2 five inning win in game two. Lesley moves to 11-15 on the season, while the Beacons finish their regular season at 21-16.

INSIDE GAME 1:

• The Beacons came out with a four-run top of the first inning and never looked back. Sydney Sanden drove in a run with a ground out and Gabriella Messier followed her up with an RBI single. Later in the inning, Brianna Melchionda and Tam Landry both reached on errors that allowed runs to score.
• Lesley got two of those runs back in the bottom of the first without actually recording a hit. Mahlia Medina led off reaching second on an error by UMass's rightfielder and Megan Murphy reached on a fielder's choice that did not retire Medina. Both runners advanced on a wild pitch, with Ilana Zack then drawing a walk. Antonia Kieran drove in the first run by reaching on another Beacons error and Jess O'Neill sent another home on a groundout.
• Sanden and Messier drove in two more in the second inning, both on productive groundouts. UMass would add two more in the next two innings, starting with Landry and Britney Perkett driving runs in in the third and Melchionda reaching an a run-scoring error in the fourth, followed by a wild pitch that scored Bella Nadeau.
• Melchionda threw four excellent innings to get the win, allowing only two hits and striking out six Lynx. Day and Lindsey Jensen were the only Lynx to pick up hits off of Melchionda. Samantha Mecklenburg took the loss for Lesley, but only two of her ten runs allowed were earned.

INSIDE GAME 2:

• The Beacons scored first again, picking up two quick runs in the top of the first. Haley Tilberry drove one in with a double and Mackenzie Cahill later drew a bases loaded walk before Day struck out Nadeau and induced a ground ball back to her to get an out at the plate.
• The Lynx wasted no time making sure the second game would not finish like the first. They sent eleven batters to the plate in the first inning, scoring six times. Day got the scoring started with the first of four hits for her, this one a double to drive in Medina and Murphy. Lindsey Jensen picked up two RBI with a single later in the inning, as did Medina even later on.
• In the second, Day scored on a wild pitch for the seventh Lesley run. Later in the inning, with Sam Jensen on second, O'Neill drew a pick-off throw to first from the Beacons' catcher that sailed into right field. Jensen came around to score and O'Neill got caught in a pickle rounding third that resulted in her coming in to score as well.
• Day grabbed another RBI in the third inning with a single to score Medina and then the Lynx put together another big inning. After Lindsey Jensen was hit by a pitch to load the bases, Holly Swinamer sent a liner into left field for an RBI single. Medina followed that up with a pop-up deep enough out of the infield to score O'Neill from third, then Megan Murphy drew a walk to re-load the bases for Day. She sent a ball to right that just barely missed going out, but instead stayed in for a three-run double. Day would later score on a base hit by Kieran for the fifteenth and final Lynx run.
• While going 4-for-4 at the plate with three doubles, three runs scored, and six runs batted in, Day was excellent on the mound as well. She earned her eighth win, allowing two runs on five hits and striking out seven.
