Mercurio and Doka Get Weekly NECC Honors

Junior Nicole Mercurio (Wakefield, Mass.) and sophomore Jodee Doka (Sacramento, Calif.) were honored with the final New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) weekly awards of the season. Mercurio was named NECC Pitcher of the Week while Doka earned NECC Player of the Week. Assistant Commissioner for Communications, Robb Modica, made the announcement in the weekly conference report.

Both were named to the NECC All-Tournament team following Lesley's fifth consecutive conference title this past weekend.

SOFTBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Jodee Doka, Lesley

(So, OF - Sacramento, Calif.)

Doka earned NECC All-Tournament honors after hitting .455 at the plate with seven RBI and three runs scored. In the final game of the tournament, the sophomore was 4-for-5, a double and five RBI as Lesley defeated Newbury for the NECC title.

SOFTBALL PITCHER OF THE WEEK

Nicole Mercurio, Lesley

(Jr, UT/P - Wakefield, Mass.)

Mercurio was named NECC Tournament Most Valuable Player pitching eight innings, allowing four runs (three earned), 11 hits, and striking out six. The junior helped her cause at the plate hitting an even .500 (5-10) with four runs, three doubles, and four RBI.

 

The two will lead the Lynx in the NCAA Division III Championships, which start on Thursday at 10:00a, when Lesley will square off with Tufts University on the campus of Babson College.
