Lynx Sweep Past Wildcats

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Lynx took both ends of a doubleheader over Wheelock College today in New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) action at Regis College. The Lynx, who are now winners of six in a row, move to 11-13 on the year, 6-1 in the NECC, while the Wildcats fall to 0-17 overall and 0-10 in conference play.

Senior Emily Mangiaratti (Amherst, Mass.) paced the Lynx offense as she collected four hits and scored four runs between the two games while a trio of Lesley pitchers quieted the Wheelock bats. Freshman Jordan Thomas (Fitchburg, Mass.) tossed a complete game, allowing four hits while striking out three in the opener, which the Lynx took 9-1 in five innings. Juniors Jen Dorval (Franklin, N.H.) and Nicole Mercurio (Wakefield, Mass.) teamed up to shutout the Wildcats in game two. Dorval, in her first start since March 24th, threw three innings, giving up just one hit while striking out four before Mercurio came in relief for the final two innings, also giving up a single hit and striking out three in the 11-0 win in five innings.

Maria Nazzaro (Reading, Mass.), Jodee Doka (Sacramento, Calif.), Molly Sarson (Sanford, Me.), Allison Fountain (Cheshire, Conn.), and Mercurio all finished with two hits on the afternoon.

The Lynx got RBI's from eight different batters in game one while freshman Angela Mukai (Amherst, N.H.) connected for a grand slam in game two to lead the Lesley attack. Mukai's line drive blast over the left field fence was her team-leading second of the year, while her 17 RBI place her one behind Mercurio for the team lead.

Seniors Jacky Hull (Braintree, Mass.) and Sara Buscemi (Arlington, Mass.) each had a pair of hits for Wheelock while freshman Felicia Baptista (Stoughton, Mass) knocked in the lone run for the Wildcats with a sacrifice fly to right field in the fifth inning of game two.

Both teams will be back in NECC action tomorrow. Lesley will head to Bay Path for a twin-bill starting at 1:00p while Wheelock will play host to Southern Vermont for a doubleheader starting at 11:00a.
