RIC Hits Their Way Past Lynx

RIC Hits Their Way Past Lynx

CLERMONT, Fla. – Rhode Island College senior Marisa Jandreau (Plainville, Conn.) had four hits and came across the plate three times to lead a strong offensive performance from the Anchorwoman as they drop the Lynx 14-2 this afternoon at the National Training Center in Clermont, Florida. Classmate Emily Johnson (West Kingston, R.I.) chipped in with three hits and scored two runs as RIC improves to 2-0 on the year. The Lynx fall to 0-4 on the young season.

RIC, who finished with 17 hits as a team, got started early as they pushed five runs across the plate in the top half of the first inning. Junior Stacy Pokora (Wilton, Conn.) got the scoring going with a bases-loaded single, allowing sophomore Taylor Nelson (Wareham, Mass.) to score. After capitalizing on a Lynx error and a sacrifice fly, the Anchorwoman capped the first with an RBI single from sophomore Carli Matrisian (Milford, Conn.).

Lesley tried to fight back, getting one in the bottom half of the inning when freshman Angela Mukai (Amherst, N.H.) ripped a single to left, allowing senior Emily Mangiaratti (Amherst, Mass.) to come around.

The Anchorwomen would not let up, as they scored two more in the second on RBI singles from sophomore Justina Thoma (Canterbury, Conn.) and Johnson.

Holding a 9-2 lead in going into the seventh inning, Jandreau came around after a Lynx error and freshman Tori Lussier (North Franklin, Conn.) followed that with a blast over the left field fence with the bases loaded, capping an offensive onslaught for RIC, who had five players collect two or more hits.

For the Lynx, Mangiaratti finished going 2-for-3 at the plate while junior Nicole Mercurio (Wakefield, Mass.) went 1-for-2 with an RBI. Senior Rian Powers (Portland, Me.) had two steals for the Lynx.

Lesley, who will have a day off tomorrow (Tuesday), returns to the diamond on Wednesday when they square off with Northwestern (Minn.) and Heidelberg. The games will start at 9:00a and 11:00a, respectively.

RIC is scheduled for two games on Tuesday, the first at 9:00a against the College of New Jersey and then against Simmons College at 11:00a at the National Training Center.
