No. 1 seed Lynx set to host NECC Tournament

CAMBRIDGE, MA -- At 25-10 and 18-0 in league play, Lesley University finished the regular season atop the New England Collegiate Conference standings and has won the right to host the 2012 NECC Softball Championship.

Jennifer Dorval, Jenna Fralick and the Lynx earned a first round bye for the weekend tournament, which will be played at Wellesley College begining Friday, May 4. In a rematch of last year's championship, the Lynx will take on No. 4 Elms College, which squeeked past No. 5 Bay Path 1-0 on Wednesday.

Mitchell College (19-13, 16-2 NECC) earned the No. 2 seed and will play Bay Path (10-28, 7-11 NECC) in a first round game on Tuesday, May 1.

Daniel Webster College (20-17, 12-6 NECC) is the No. 3 seed and will host sixth-seeded Regis College (8-23, 8-10 NECC), while fifth seed Bay Path College (14-25, 9-9 NECC) will travel to No. 4 seed Elms College (14-17, 10-8 NECC) for a first round matchup.

All first round games will be played on Tuesday, May 1 at the higher seed. Winners will advance to the double-elimination tournament hosted by Lesley and played at Wellesley College on Friday, May 4-6.

The top seven teams qualify for the NECC Championship. Predetermined tiebreaking procedures were used to seed teams with identical conference winning percentages.

The Lynx look to repeat as NECC Champions for a fourth straight year and return to the NCAA Tournament, where the team played a year ago.
