Brixey, Vassillion, Lynx whack Wildcats with pair of 28-0 wins

CEHSTNUT HILL, MA -- Centerfielder Gabrielle Brixey went 5-for-6 with a home run, four runs scored and six RBI's, and fellow senior Stephanie Vassillion picked up her first win of the season with three scoreless innings in the Lynx 28-0 win at Wheelock in New England Collegiate Conference softball play Wednesday afternoon.

The Lynx again won by the score of 28-0 in Game 2, with Vassillion going the distance in a three-hit shutout and striking out a career-high seven. Nicole Mercurio and Molly Sarson each homered and Jessica Guevara went 5-for-5 with five runs scored and four RBI's.

In the opener, all nine Lynx starting position players got at least one base hit and scored at least one run, with eight starters scoring two or more times and eight starters tallying two or more hits. Emily Mangiaratti went 3-for-3 with three runs scored, and Jenna Fralick went 3-for-4 with three runs scored and two RBI's.

Vassillion, meanwhile, came on in relief of starter Jennifer Dorval, who went two scoreless innings, and allowed only one hit over three shutout frames for the win.

In Game 2, in addition to Guevara's 5-for-5 performance, Allison Fountain went 3-for-4 with three runs scored and four driven in, Fralick went 3-for-5 with three runs scored, and Mercurio went 2-for-2 with two RBI's and four runs scored.

Junior Mary Dembinski came off the bench to go 2-for-2 with two RBI's and two runs scored, and Rian Powers entered the game in right field to pick up a career-high three hits, going 3-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBI's for the first-place Lynx.

Vassillion pitched 10 scoreless innings on the day, striking out 10 while allowing only four hits to improve to 2-0 on the season.

At 22-10 and 15-0 in NECC play, Lesley returns home on Thursday to take on Daniel Webster at Buckingham Field at 4:00 p.m.
