Softball improves to 20-10, grounds Hawks 23-1, 11-4

LEICESTER, MA -- Lesley improved to 20-10 on the season with a pair of convincing NECC wins at Becker, 23-1 and 11-4.

Sophomore right fielder Maria Nazzaro went 3-for-4 with an RBI in both games, going 6-for-8 with a double and four runs scored on the day. Junior designated player Emily Mangiaratti went a combined 4-for-7 with four runs scored and five RBI's, and sophomore Jennifer Dorval struck out 10 in 6 and 1/3 innings pitched over two games, allowing six hits and picking up a pair of wins.

Lesley pushed eight across in the second inning to go up 10-0 and 10 more in the fourth to make it 23-0. Mangiaratti cleared the bases with a three-run triple for the big blow in the second, in which Nazzaro singled twice and scored twice. All nine Lynx scored in the fourth, with junior second base player Jessica Guevara singling and scoring twice in the frame as Lesley went on to the 23-1 win.

Shortstop Sarah Apgar tripled home Nazzaro to start the scoring in the second game, and Lesley then went up 3-0 after two on a Mangiaratti sacrifice fly. A three-run home run from Becker's Megan Cordon brought the Hawks to within 5-4 after three and all but marked the departure of Lynx starter Mary Dembinski.With Dorval on in relief, the Lynx scored three in the fourth and three in the fifth to take the 11-4 win in a six-inning, rain-shortened affair.

Guevara singled and scored in the fourth and scored after a walk in the fifth, and Gabrielle Brixey drove in two with a double and scored in the fourth and came around after being hit by a pitch in the fifth. Nazzaro went 3-for-4 in the nightcap, and Mangiaratti went 2-for-3.

Dorval improved to 12-2 with the pair of wins as Lesley jumped to 20-10 and a perfect 13-0 in NECC play.

The Lynx return to play on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. at Wheelock.
