Mangiaratti's perfect day at the plate leads Lynx to pair of W's

CAMBRIDGE, MA – Lesley University got a five-inning three-hitter from starting pitcher Jennifer Dorval (Franklin, NH/Franklin) in its 12-1 Game 1 win, and the Lynx continued by scoring seven in the first inning of the nightcap to win 13-1.

Lesley broke out for six runs in the second inning of Game 1, putting together a string of seven straight hits capped by an Allison Fountain (Cheshire, CT/Cheshire) two-run triple to the corner in left. Lesley added four runs in the fourth on six hits, including an Emily Mangiaratti (Amherst, MA/Amherst) two-run single to center, going ahead by what would be the final score of 12-1.

Mangiaratti went 4-for-4 with two runs scored and three RBI's and shortstop Sarah Apgar (Andover, NJ/Lenape) went 3-for-3 with a double, a triple, three runs scored and two RBI's.

Dorval improved to 10-2, striking out seven, allowing only three hits and an unearned run.

Southern Vermont pitcher Hayley McDonald (Latham, NY/Shaker) went 1-for-2 at the plate and struck out one in the circle.

After the first four batters reached to open the Lesley half of the first inning of Game 2, a Nicole Mercurio (Wakefield, MA/Wakefield) single wrapped around a pair of RBI sacrifice flies scored two. Apgar tripled to the wall in left-center, and Mangiaratti scored her on a two-run single to center, putting the Lynx on top 7-0 after one.

Three more came across in the second thanks in part to back-to-back RBI singles by Mercurio and Jodee Doka (Sacramento, CA/Waldorf), and the Lynx added two in the fourth on four straight hits crowned by a Fountain RBI double down the third base line for the 13-1 win.

Fountain went 4-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI, and Mangiaratti went 2-for-2 with two runs and two RBI's.

Lynx pitcher Cassandra Knox (Sea Cliff, NY/North Shore) struck out four, scattered five hits and allowed one unearned run over five innings for her seventh win of the year.

For the Mountaineers, McDonald drove in Tasha Smith (Capital Heights, MD/Suitland) for the team's only run, and Alyssa Davis (Lyndonville, VT/Lyndon Institute) went 2-for-3 with a double.

Both teams return to NECC play tomorrow, with Lesley traveling to Becker at 11 a.m. and SVC going to Newbury.
