Perfection! Dorval perfect game leads LU to 9-0 with wins at Elms

CHICOPEE, MA -- Starting pitcher Jenn Dorval retired all 15 Blazers batters, six by way of strikeout, in throwing a perfect game in Lesley's 9-0 win over Elms.

In Game 2, senior Cassandra Knox held Elms to one run over six innings in the Lynx 7-4 win.

Offensively, Sarah Apgar and Gabrielle Brixey each hit their first home runs of the year.

Lesley got on the board early, with an Allison Fountain double scoring Emily Mangiaratti and Jessica Guevara. Fountain then came home on a Dorval single that put the Lynx ahead 3-0 in the first.

The visitors put the Blazers away four innings later with a six-run fifth. Apgar started things with her two-run homer to left, Guevara doubled home a pair, and Fountain and Dorval knocked back-to-back one-out RBI singles to left field to cap the six-run outburst.

Dorval breezed through the Elms side in order, getting Haley Zisk to ground to second, Sarah Buckley to fly to center and striking out Courtney Hampton to secure perfection.

Lesley's top of the order did the damage offensively, with Mangiaratti going 3-for-4 with three runs scored, Guevara going 2-for-4 with two runs scored and two driven in and Fountain going 2-for-4 with two runs and three RBI's.

Dorval, meanwhile, went 2-for-4 with two RBI's out of the clean-up spot.

As the team did in the opener, the Lynx used a three-run first to take an early lead. Mangiaratti singled and scored on a Nicole Mercurio sac fly, on which Fountain tagged to third, where she scored on a wild pitch before Brixey hit her solo homer to left.

The Lynx scored three more in the sixth on a Molly Sarson single, Mangiaratti fielder's choice and a Dorval groundout.

Knox struck out five and allowed only one run on a sixth-inning wild pitch. The Blazers plated three off reliever Mary Dembinski in the seventh, with the Lynx going on to a 7-4 win.

At 16-8 overall and 9-0 in NECC play, Lesley returns to the diamond at Wheelock on Tuesday.
