NORTON, MA -- Lesley senior Cassandra Knox made her first hit since 2009 a valuable one, roping a two-run double to centerfield to lift the Lynx over Wheaton, 4-2 Thursday afternoon.

Wheaton won the nightcap, 4-0, scoring one run in four different innings in support of Noelle Christmas' four-hit shutout.

The Lyons tied the game in the fourth inning with a pair of runs off Lynx starter Jennifer Dorval, but Knox came on in relief to escape a bases-loaded jam with the contest still knotted at 2-2.

Entering the game with only three hits in 25 career at-bats and just a single plate appearance since 2009, Knox then singled with one out in the fifth and came around to score the eventual winning run. Sarah Apgar would advance Knox to second on a sac bunt, and the NECC Pitcher of the Year scored a batter later on an Emily Mangiaratti single misplayed by Wheaton centerfielder Alanna Monohan.

Lesley tacked on another run in the sixth, when Nicole Mercurio, getting her first career start in center field, singled to lead off the inning and came around to score on a Molly Sarson single to left-center.

The Lyons managed but a one-out walk off Knox in the seventh, but Allison Fountain ended the game by gunning down pinch-runner Amanda Poplaski attempting to steal second.

In all, Knox threw 3 and 1/3 innings of scoreless three-hit ball to pick up her first win of 2012.

At the plate, Knox went 2-for-3 with two RBI's and one run scored. Mercurio went 2-for-3 with a run and Sarson went 1-for-3 with an RBI and scored a run.

Knox started Game 2, giving up a run in the first and another in the second before being relieved by Mercurio, who gave up one in the fourth and another in the sixth.

The Lynx bats, meanwhile, struggled to figure out Christmas, who limited the visitors to three singles and a sixth-inning triple from Maria Nazzaro, who was left stranded at third.

Lesley went down in order in the seventh, falling to 3-5 on the season.

Jen Benway's club returns to the diamond on Tuesday, also in non-conference play, traveling to Brandeis for a single game at 5:00 p.m.
