Lynx wrap up Florida trip with loss to Muhlenberg

CLERMONT, FL – Lesley University finished its Florida spring training 3-4 with an 8-1 loss to Muhlenberg Thursday night at the Dot Richardson National Training Center.

After fouling off three pitches from Lynx starter Cassandra Knox (Sea Cliff, NY/North Shore), Mules right fielder Jordan Schessler (Plainview, NY/Bethpage) took Knox opposite field for a two-out, two-run homer in the second.

Knox's defense put her in some trouble two innings later. Three infield errors and an outfield error on four straight at-bats prefaced an Ashley Brewer (Somerset, NJ/Bishop Ahr) two-run triple to right. A 5-3-2 double play that ended with Ashley Cunningham (Mountain Top, PA/Crestwood) gunning down Brewer at the plate from first ended the inning, but not before Muhlenberg took a commanding 7-0 lead.

The Lynx got one back in the fifth on Gabrielle Brixey's (Coalinga, CA/West Hills CC) seventh RBI of the season, a single to center that scored Jenna Fralick (Woburn, MA/Woburn).

In her first action of the season, Lesley Stephanie Vassillion (Warner, NH/Kearsage) worked two innings of relief, allowing an unearned run on two hits and a walk, striking out one. Knox (1-3) took her third loss of the year, going four innings and giving up seven runs, two earned on seven hits, striking out two.

Lesley drops to 3-4 on the spring, while the Mules move to 5-2.
