CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The Lesley University softball team got back to their winning ways after a New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) doubleheader sweep of Wheelock College on Thursday afternoon. The Lynx won 13-0 and 10-4 to improved to 19-10 (12-1 NECC) while the Wildcats dropped to 1-23 (1-11 NECC).
Game One
The Lynx offense scored 13 runs on 15 hits and the combination
of Cassandra
Knox (SEA CLIFF, N.Y./North Shore) and Stephanie
Vassillion (WARNER, N.H./Kearsarge Regional) no-hit the
Wildcats through five-innings to win the first game
13-0.
Knox and Vassillion combined for 5.0 innings pitched, no hits,
one walk, and five strikeouts. Knox took the victory, her
15th of the season.
Highlighting the offense for Lesley was junior outfielder Chelsea
Quackenbush (EAST HAMPTON, Conn./East Hampton) who cracked a
solo homerun to lead off the top of the fifth inning. It was
her first homerun of her collegiate career.
At the plate, senior Jodi Fralick
(WOBURN, Mass./Woburn) went 4-for-4 with two runs scored and three
Lynx batters had two-RBI to lead the offense. Emily
Mangiaratti (AMHERST, Mass./Amherst Regional), Georgia
Saltzman (LYNN, Mass./Lynn English), and Molly Sarson
(SANFORD, Maine/Sanford) knocked in two runs apiece.
Game Two
In a 10-4 game two victory, Lesley was led offensively by
Mangiaratti and Saltzman who each had three hits. Mangiaratti
added two runs scored a RBI while Saltzman knocked in two runs and
crossed the plate once.
Alyson
Durben (STOW, Mass./Nashoba Regional) and Fralick each had a
hit in the game with two runs scored and a RBI.
After Knox pitched three innings, giving up one run on three
hits and two walks, Vassillion came in to pitch the game's final
four innings while earning her first victory of the season.
Lesley will enter the final weekend of regular season games with an away doubleheader against NECC opponent Daniel Webster College on Saturday, May 1 starting at noon and then a single game on Sunday against Newbury College starting at noon.
