Durben and Knox earn NECC weekly honors

MEN'S TENNIS

PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Mitchell College sophomore Kyle Carmona (Norwich, Conn.) led the Mariners to another 2-0 week defeating NECC opponents Wheelock 9-0 and Lesley 8-1. While pairing with rookie winner Rocco Devona, the tandem defeated the Wildcats' Wilson Chang and Robert Venning 8-2 and the Lynx' pair of David Newton and Alex Zhitnik 8-0 in the #1 doubles position. Carmona also went 1-0 in #1 singles defeating Chang 6-2, 6-0 and a tough match against Newton 6-1, 7-5.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK –Mitchell College freshman Rocco Devona (Waterford, Conn.) again earned rookie honors helping the Mariners to a 2-0 NECC week.  While pairing with player of the Week Carmona, the tandem defeated the Wildcats' Wilson Chang and Robert Venning 8-2 and the Lynx' pair of David Newton and Alex Zhitnik 8-0 in the #1 doubles position.  He also shut-out the Wildcats' Katherine Needham 6-0, 6-0 and beat the Lynx' Nick Mattox 6-1, 6-1 in the #2 singles spot.

SOFTBALL

PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Lesley University junior centerfielder Alyson Durben (Stow, Conn.) led the Lynx to a 2-0 conference sweep of Bay Path 5-0 and 8-1. Durben batted .714 (5-for-7), slugged 1.429 and had a .714 on-base percentage. She hit safely in both games including going 4-for-4 with two runs and one RBI in the nightcap. She also knocked her first homer of the season in the opener.

PITCHER OF THE WEEK – Lesley University sophomore Cassandra Knox (Sea Cliff, N.Y.) was a winner both times she stepped into the circle for the Lynx. Lesley finished the week 2-0 sweeping NECC opponent Bay Path 5-0 and 8-1. She hurled 13 innings giving up only one run on five hits.  Knox fanned ten and walked eight batters. She finished the week with a0.69 ERA.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK – Mitchell College freshman infielder Meghan Burke (Bronx, N.Y.) batted .400 (4-for-10) with three RBI, three runs, one double helping the Mariners to a 2-2 record. She finished with a solid .500 slugging percentage and a .500 on-base percentage.

BASEBALL

PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Elms College senior infielder Mike Andrews (Lowell, Mass.) had a hot bat in a 1-1 week for the Blazers notching two multiple hit contests. Andrews batted .714 (5-for-7), slugged 1.571 and had a .800 on-base percentage while allowing no errors. He improved to a six game hitting streak, while tallying six RBI and three runs. Andrews also went 3-for-3 in stolen bases.

PITCHER OF THE WEEK – Once again, Mitchell College senior pitcher Jeremy Chapman (Waterford, Conn.) earned pitcher honors. Chapman fanned eight batters, while walking only one Eagle in a 4-3 win over conference leader Daniel Webster. Chapman notched a 2.57 ERA for the week.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK – Elms College freshman centerfielder Stephen Fisher (West Boylston, Mass.) batted .333 (2-for-6)  hitting safely in both contests. The Blazers went 1-1 on the week with one unfinished contest against Southern Vermont. He added three runs and went 3-for-3 in stolen bases.
