Durben and Knox earn NECC Weekly Awards

MEN'S TENNIS

PLAYER OF THE WEEK – For the second straight week, Mitchell College sophomore Kyle Carmona (Norwich, Conn.) earned NECC Player of the Week honors. The Mariners finished 2-0 on the week, defeating Post 9-0 and conference opponent Lesley 7-2. Carmona won twice at the #1 singles position 6-1, 6-2 against Post player Caio Rodrigues and 6-2, 6-4 vs. the Lynx' David Newton. He teamed with Rocco Devona to go 2-0 in #1 doubles action, as well.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK – Mitchell College freshman Rocco Devona (Waterford, Conn.) notched his second consecutive weekly honors in men's tennis, effectively shutting down both of his opponents 6-0, 6-0 in the #2 singles spot.  While pairing with Carmona, the tandem defeated Post players Rodriguez and Ahmetovic 8-5 and the Lynx' pair of  Mattox and Zhitnik 8-1 in the #1 doubles position.

SOFTBALL

PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Lesley University junior outfielder Alyson Durben (Stow, Mass.) batted a sizzling .889 (8-for-9) while leading the Lynx to a 2-0 conference sweep of Becker 3-1 and 13-1.  Durben had two doubles, one triple, three runs and eight RBI's.  She slugged 1.333, fielded 1.000 and had a .889 on-base percentage. She tied a career-high single game RBI record at five in the nightcap.

PITCHER OF THE WEEK – Lesley University sophomore Cassandra Knox (Sea Cliff, N.Y.) threw all 15.0 innings of both doubleheader wins over NECC rival Becker. She allowed only two runs, one unearned, on five hits. Knox fanned 15 and walked two batters. In the opener, Knox went extra innings striking out 12 batters, a career-high.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK – Bay Path freshman pitcher/outfielder Ashley Provost (Ludlow, Mass.) led the Wildcats to a 2-0 sweep of Albertus Magnus winning the opener 8-2 and taking the nightcap 13-3. Provost hurled game one, picking up the win with a 0.00 ERA allowing one unearned run on one hit. She fanned seven and walked two in her six innings of work.  Provost batted .500 with two hits, three runs and four RBI.  She slugged.500 and had .a 571 on-base percentage. Provost also had a perfect fielding percentage, with three putouts and one assist.

BASEBALL

PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Daniel Webster College junior outfielder Zach Cantor (Windham, Maine.) led the Eagles to a 2-1 conference series over Becker going 14-3, 6-5 and 1-3. In game two of the three game series, he went 3-for-3 with two RBI including two doubles. Cantor batted .714 while posting a 1.143 slugging percentage. He had two RBI and five hits, hitting safely in all three games.  He had three doubles and four free trips to first base. Cantor also notched two stolen bases.

PITCHER OF THE WEEK – Becker College freshman pitcher Joe Franchi (Millbury, Mass.) hurled a complete game, allowing five hits on one run, unearned, in a 3-1 victory over NECC rival Daniel Webster. Franchi fanned 11 batters throwing 120 pitches as the Hawks avoided a sweep by the Eagles. He finished with a 0.00 ERA.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK - For the second straight week, Mitchell College freshman pitcher Garrett Cornwell (Oxford, Conn.) earned conference rookie honors. He improved to 3-0 on the season in a complete-game effort over Elms, winning the series finale 5-2.  Cornwell allowed two runs on three hits in 7.0 innings of work. He struck out two batters and gave up four walks. Cornwell finished with a 2.57 ERA.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK – Daniel Webster freshman infielder Elliot Kilgore (Milford, N.H.) batted .500 en route to a 2-1 NECC series lead over Becker College. Kilgore hit safely in all three games, including going 2-for-2 with two runs scored and one RBI in a 14-3 win over the Hawks. He finished the series with a .625 slugging percentage, a .636 on-base percentage and a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage. Kilgore
