Lesley knocks off Mitchell in NECC double header

NEW LONDON, Conn. - The Lesley University softball team came from behind in the fifth inning of game one and mercy-ruled Mitchell College in game two to sweep the Mariners in New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) play.  The Lynx improved to 19-10 (11-1 NECC) on the season as they took a firmer hold on first place in the conference.

Game One

The Lynx fell behind 3-1 in the fourth inning on a Mitchell two-RBI single from Sara Krolikowski (Bristol, Conn.) and a sacrifice fly from Stacey Suplicki (New London, Conn.).

Lesley rebounded by scoring five runs in the fifth inning to retake the lead.  In the inning, there were RBI singles from Lani Cabral-Pini (Wilmington, Mass.), Jodi Fralick (Woburn, Mass.), and Georgia Saltzman (Lynn, Mass.).  Sarah Wilson (Lowell, Mass.) also recorded a run batted in with a sacrifice fly to right field that brought in Alyson Durben (Stow, Mass.).

The Mariners and Lynx would exchange runs in the sixth and seventh innings, but Lesley held on for the 7-4 victory. 

Alicia Burnett (Gulf Breeze, Fla.) earned her 11th victory of the season by giving up four runs on eight hits and striking out five in seven innings pitched.

Game Two

Lesley took control of game two early by scoring three runs in the first inning and four runs in the second inning en route to a 12-1 victory in five innings.  Cassandra Knox (Sea Cliff, N.Y.) pitched a no-hitter and struck out three batters in the shortened game.

Sarah Wilson led the Lynx offense by going perfect at the plate with three hits and four runs batted in.  Christina DiGiorgio (Lowell, Mass.) tallied two RBIs on a single and a fielder's choice.

Georgia Saltzman, Jodi Fralick, and Jenna Fralick (Woburn, Mass.) each had an RBI in the game.  Jodi Fralick led the team with three runs scored and Lani Cabral-Pini stole two bases.

The Lynx continue their conference schedule tomorrow against Bay Path College starting at 1:00 pm in Longmeadow, Massachusetts.
