Lynx improve to 4-0 in NECC play

BROOKLINE, Mass. - The Lesley University softball team took two games from New England Collegiate Conference opponent Newbury College to improve their record to 7-6 (4-0 NECC).  The Lynx got two dominant pitching performances from Alicia Burnett (Gulf Breeze, Fla.) and Cassandra Knox (Sea Cliff, N.Y.) who combined for 23 strikeouts in the double header.

Game One

Knox worked hard through seven innings, giving up just four hits and two unearned runs while striking out 11 Nighthawk batters.  The Lynx won 7-2 and Knox her individual record to 2-2 on the season. 

At the dish, Georgia Saltzman (Lynn, Mass.) went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI that came in the first inning.  Sarah Wilson (Lowell, Mass.) also knocked in a runner in the first inning and scored two runs in the victory.

Lesley took a 6-0 lead after the three-run top of the fifth inning, but Newbury responded with two runs of their own off RBI singles from Jessica Jordan (Stoneham, Mass.) and Ariel Ross (Gales Ferry, Conn.) to make the score 6-2.

Knox settled down to collect the win and the Lynx took game one of the double header.

Also recording RBIs in the game were Alyson Durben (Stow, Mass.) and Chelsea Quackenbush (East Hampton, Conn.).

Game Two

In game two, Burnett took the mound and pitching a one-hitter through the five inning mercy-rule game.  The senior struck out 12 as the only hit she gave up was to the leadoff batter in the first inning.

Durben and Jenna Fralick (Woburn, Mass.) collected two runs batted in each to lead the offensive charge.  Quackenbush was solid from the plate again, going 3-for-3 with a run scored as she upped her season batting average to .385. 

Jodi Fralick (Woburn, Mass.) went 2-for-3 in the game with a RBI and two runs scored.  Her two hits increased her team leading hit total to 23.

Lesley will next host NECC opponent Daniel Webster College on Saturday starting at 3:00 pm.
