NAC CHAMPIONSHIP: Men's Claim Sixth, Women’s Finish Fifth at NAC Championship

THE LEAD – The Lesley men's and women's track and field team both competed at the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Championship on Saturday afternoon, hosted by Colby College. The men's squad came in sixth whereas the women's team took fifth.

On the men's side, UMaine Farmington captured the NAC tilte with 227 points. Second place saw Thomas College (149 points), followed by Husson (89 points), UMaine Presque Isle (62 points), VTSU Johnson (38 points), and finally, Lesley (20 points). 

Meanwhile, on the women's side, UMaine Farmington also won the title finishing with 193 points. In second, Thomas was just behind with 191 points and rounding out the rest of the schools were Husson (151.50 points), VTSU Johnson (46.50 points), and finally Lesley (one point).

Men's Highlights

  • Hezekiah Brown (Stafford, Va.) had a strong NAC Championship debut as the sophomore highlighted his day by taking home first place in the long jump. Brown won the event with a leap of 6.54 meters and each time he has competed in the event, he has recorded a mark of 6.50m or more. Meanwhile in the triple jump, Brown came in second with a leap of 12.38 meters which ended up being both a personal and program record. In track events, Brown earned a fifth place finish in the 400m after crossing the finish line at 56.46 seconds and in the 100m, he grabbed a seventh place finish at 13.23 seconds. 
  • Also representing the Lynx Saturday was Jelanie Morgan (Atlanta, Ga.) who notched a top-10 finish in long jump with a mark of 5.36m which ended up being a career best. 
  • The Lynx's final representative from the men's squad was Osmin Castaneda (East Boston, Mass.) who partook in both shotput and discus for Lesley. In discus, Castaneda came in 13th with a throw of 17.24m and in shotput, he had a toss of 6.92m (14th place).

Women's Highlights

  • Rebecca Hall (Richmond, Vt.) led the Lynx with a sixth place finish in the 5000m where she ran a new personal record of 21:53.89. It marked her first sub 22-minute time in the 5000m. 
  • In the 400m, Lesley saw two runners record finishes in the race led by Darily Sanchez-Vargas (Chelsea, Mass.) who ran a career best 1:14.65 (sixth place) and not far behind her was Estephany Morales (New York, N.Y.) in ninth with a time of 1:30.16.
  • MacKenzie Mann (Franklin, Mass.) had a strong showing in the 800m when she crossed the finish line at 3:00.51 (seventh) resulting in a new personal record for the sophomore. 
  • Competing in the 1500m, Holly Swinamer (Franklin, Mass.) crossed the finish line in 10th place with a time of 8:12.37. 
  • Despite not qualifying for the 100m finals, in her NAC Championship debut, Meriell Wordell (Newton, Mass.) posted a time of 14.66 seconds for a 10th place finish.

  • Brown will represent the Lynx at the NCAA Division III New England Championships held on Saturday May 2 hosted by the Coast Guard Academy in New London, Conn.
