Virtual Senior Day: Track & Field

CAMBRIDGE, MA. -- The Lesley men's and women's track & field teams each had one senior in their 2020 class.

Ethan Merians, from Larchmont, New York, was a four-year member of the track and cross-country teams for the Lynx. He particpated in the 100 meter dash during the spring season. Merians is a Human Services major with a minor in social work and is an active member of the SAAC. He was invited to represent Lesley at an NECC SAAC event once in his career.

"I miss the competitive energy that pushes you to put in that extra effort beacuse you others are training just as hard," Merians says. "I'd tell other student-athletes that if you see an opportunity, take it! There is no guarantee that you will get it again."

Kayla Ranere, from Danbury, Connecticut, was also a four-year member of the track and cross-country teams. Ranere participated in the 200 meter and 400 meter races during the track season. She was named the NECC Women's Runner of the Year in the fall after winning the NECC Championship race in cross-country. She recorded a personal best in the 5K this year with a 21:43 time. Ranere is a Digital Filmmaking major and aspires to be a screenwriter.

"I miss not having a group of people to grow with each day at practice," says Ranere. "You want to know that you took everything you could from it, and that you will look back with more smiles than you do regrets."

"In my short time as Kayla and Ethan's coach, I had a glimpse into their work ethic, leadership, commitment, and the deep care they have for their teammates, program, and school," says cross-country and track and field head coach Daniel Selsky. "I wish that I had the opportunity to witness and work with these great young people for their entire college career. They will be deeply missed by their teammates, coaching staff, and the rest of atheltics. Once a Lynx, always a Lynx!"
