THE LEAD – The Lesley University men's tennis team continued the 2025 season with its home opener, falling to the Cadets in both the season and Empire 8 opener, 9-0 and 8-1.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Doubles (Match 1):

• In the first doubles spot, DJ Cronin (New York, N.Y.) and Thomas Nicol (Acton, Mass. dropped the first set, 8-3. 
• The second pairing in doubles Miles Brajdic (Atlanta, Ga.) and Miguel Vasconcelos (Sharon, Mass.) fell by a score of 8-0. 
• Finally, the three spot in doubles saw the pairing of James Ontiveros (Walham, Mass.) and Aidan Stafford (Weston, Mass.) lost, 8-0.

Singles (Match 1):

• Leading off singles action for Lesley, Nicol fell 6-3, 6-0.
• The second spot saw Brajdic take part but ended up with a 6-0, 6-1 defeat.
• In singles three, Cronin was downed 6-1, 6-0.
• Ontiveros took part in the singles four however he dropped his set 6-0, 6-2
• Vasconcelos found himself at the fifth spot in singles but was defeated 6-0, 6-1.
• Finally, in the last singles spot of the first match, Stafford fell 6-3, 6-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED 

Doubles (Match 2):

• Leading off doubles in match two, the pairing of Nicol and Cronin fell 8-2 in the opening matchup.
• In the second spot of doubles, Brajdic and Vasconcelos were defeated 8-3. 
• The last pairing of doubles saw Stafford and Ontiveros battle hard in a 8-5 loss.

Singles (Match 2):

• Stafford highlighted singles play with a 6-2, 6-2 win in the six spot of singles. 
• Nicol kicked off singles matches for Lesley and fought hard in a 6-3, 6-2 loss. 
• Brajdic was up next in singles two action but fell 6-1, 6-3. The third spot in singles saw Cronin defeated 6-2, 6-3. 
• In the four spot, Ontiveros dropped the set 6-0, 6-2. Next in the five spot, Vasconcelos also fell 6-1, 6-0. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

• Stafford's win in match two marked the first of his career.
• Saturday's match marked the first meeting between the two programs. 
• Vasconcelos' matches today marked his collegiate debut for the sophomore.

• Lesley is back in action later this week in non-conference action on Tuesday, April 8 at UMass Boston with things set to kick off at noon.
