THE LEAD – The Lesley University men's tennis squad opened up North Atlantic Conference (NAC) action Saturday morning with a scheduled doubleheader against SUNY Delhi at the Beren Tennis Center. The Broncos swept the opener, 9-0, before the second match was suspended during before doubles play due to inclement weather and unplayable court conditions.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Broncos took an early 3-0 lead in the contest by sweeping doubles play. The Lesley No. 1 duo pair of Nick Rosen and James Ontiveros put up a good fight vs. Benjamin Anderson and Hannah Shafer, ultimately falling in the match, 8-4.
- The newcomer pairing of Bennett Locke and Jason Habes picked up a set in No. 2 doubles play off of Moises Saintil and Devin Guerrieri in an 8-1 final.
- In No. 3 doubles, the multi-sport athlete pairing of DJ Cronin and Aidan Stafford, both members of the men's soccer program, battled to an 8-2 setback vs. J.T. Maccarrone and Jack Madera.
- For the second straight match, Cronin also put up a valiant effort in singles play, competing against Shafer in No. 5 singles play to a 6-4, 6-1 score.
- Ontiveros notched the lone other set for the Lynx in a 6-1, 6-0 final in No. 2 singles vs. Saintil.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- The match was the first North Atlantic Conference (NAC) match of the season for the Lynx.
- Habes and Locke both made their collegiate debuts on the day.
- Anderson (No. 1 singles), Guerrieri (No. 3 singles), Maccarrone (No. 4 singles) and Madera (No. 6 singles) all posted 6-0, 6-0 wins for Delhi.
UP NEXT
- Lesley returns to the court on Wednesday, April 10 for a non-conference event vs. Salem State University scheduled to begin at 6:45 PM at the Manchester Tennis Club.
- The Broncos play the same day, heading to Oneonta State for a 4:00 PM match.
