Lynx to Host Mitchell in NECC Tournament

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Lynx finished 7-3 in New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) play and 8-6 overall to earn the No. 2 seed in the 2013 NECC Men's Tennis Championship. Lesley will host No. 3 seed and defending conference champion, Mitchell College, on Wednesday, April 24th at 7:30p at Buckingham, Browne, and Nichols in the semifinal round.

The teams split their two meetings earlier in the season with the home team collecting the victory in each match. Mitchell took a decisive 8-1 victory on March 29th in the first meeting while the Lynx edged a 5-4 win in the second match of their home-and-home series.

Lesley is led by senior Nick Mattox (Pasadena, Md.) who finished the regular season with a 7-3 conference record in No. 1 singles. Mattox has carried his success over on the doubles-side as well as he and doubles partner, junior Mike Kaufman (Boca Raton, Fla.), have posted an impressive 5-2 conference record.

The Lynx have also been solid at No. 3 and No. 4 singles. Junior Thomas Tedesco (Bristol, Conn.) has posted a 7-3 conference singles record, playing primarily in the No. 3 slot, while Kaufman has been superb in No. 4 singles with an 8-2 record in conference play.

Senior Rocco Devona (Waterford, Conn.) will lead the Mariners. Devona posted a 6-3 conference singles record in the top slot, including a 1-0 record against the Lynx. Junior Zachary Simmons (Coventry, Conn.) has been brilliant in No. 2 singles, posting a 9-1 conference record and collecting NECC Rookie of the Week honors in each of the past two weeks.

Regis College finished the regular season unbeaten and earned the top seed in the Championship.

Regis (10-8, 10-0 NECC) will host fourth seed Becker (5-5, 5-5 NECC) in a semifinal match on Wednesday, April 24.

The top four teams qualify for the NECC Championship. Predetermined tiebreaking procedures were used to seed teams with identical conference winning percentages.

Semifinal games will be played on Wednesday, April 24 with winners meeting Saturday, April 27 at highest remaining seed. Game times and dates are subject to change.
