All Three Seniors Grab Wins on Senior Day,Top Nighthawks

WINCHESTER, Mass. – The Lynx concluded their regular season and celebrated Senior Day in style with a 7-2 win over Newbury College this afternoon at the Winchester Indoor Tennis Club. Lesley took two of three in the doubles matches while dropping just one singles match to improve to 8-6 on the year and 7-3 in New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) play, while Newbury falls to 1-8 on the season, 1-7 in conference action.

Senior Alex Zhitnik (West Hartford, Conn.) and junior Thomas Tedesco (Bristol, Conn.) took the first victory of the afternoon in a quick 8-0 win in No. 2 doubles, while senior Nick Mattox (Pasadena, Md.) and junior Mike Kaufman (Boca Raton, Fla.) followed that up with an 8-2 win in the No. 1 doubles match over Nighthawks sophomore John Morgan (Cumberland, R.I.) and junior Gerard Font-Raventos (Barcelona, Spain).

Newbury grabbed their first win of the day in No. 3 doubles when sophomore Wayne Gethers (Cambridge, Mass.) and Steve Carey (Andover, Mass.) topped Lesley senior Jimmy Paulsen (Monroe, Conn.) and sophomore Jordan Santos (Middlebury, Conn.), 8-2.

All three Lesley seniors fittingly grabbed wins in their singles matches. Zhitnik and Mattox each carried their momentum from their doubles matches and grabbed 6-1, 6-0 victories in No. 2 and No. 1 singles respectively, while Paulsen triumphed in No. 6 singles, defeating Marcolini 6-2, 6-4.

Tedesco took a 6-1, 6-1 victory in No. 3 singles over Font-Raventos while Kaufman rounded out Lesley's wins with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Carey in the No. 4 slot.

Nighthawks sophomore Joey Verdon (Catskill, N.Y.) earned the lone singles victory for Newbury, taking a 6-2, 7-5 decision over Lynx sophomore Roman Pham (Lynnfield, Mass.).
