Lynx Fall to Regis; Pride Remain Perfect in NECC

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Regis College Pride continued their dominance in the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) men's tennis with an 8-1 win over the Lynx tonight at Buckingham, Browne, and Nichols. The Pride move to a perfect 9-0 in conference play, 9-8 overall, while the Lynx fall to 6-3 in NECC action and hold a 7-6 record on the year.

After sophomore Mike Beluch (Lynn, Mass.) and junior Jeff Parrish (Framingham, Mass.) rolled to an 8-1 win in No. 1 singles to get the night started, the Pride would go on to blank Lesley in the doubles portion, but not without some resistance. Junior Andy White (Bozeman, Mont.) and freshman Austin Nace (Sarasota, Fla.) topped the Lynx duo of senior Alex Zhitnik (West Hartford, Conn.) and junior Thomas Tedesco (Bristol, Conn.) in the second flight, 8-5, while Sophorn Nop (Lowell, Mass.) and Matt Smolko (Pelham, N.H.) finished the sweep with an 8-4 win over Lynx senior Jimmy Paulsen (Monroe, Conn.) and sophomore Jordan Santos (Middlebury, Conn.) in the third slot.

In singles, Beluch improved to a flawless 9-0 in NECC competition with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Lesley senior Nick Mattox (Pasadena, Md.) in the top slot. White came out with a 6-4, 7-5 victory over Zhitnik in second singles and Parrish followed that up with a 7-5, 6-4 win over Tedesco in No. 3.

The Lynx grabbed their only victory of the night as junior Mike Kaufman (Boca Raton, Fla) defeated Nop in fourth singles with a 6-4, 6-4 victory.

Regis rounded out the night with a pair of victories in No. 5 and No. 6 singles as Mouhamed Diallo (Boston, Mass.) took a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Lynx sophomore Roman Pham and Smolko defeated Paulsen with a 6-1, 6-4 advantage.

Both teams will close out their regular season with some more NECC action on Saturday as Lesley will host Newbury College at 12:00p while Regis will head to Becker College at 1:00p.
