Lynx Slam Hawks, Earn Second Straight NECC Win

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Lynx were able to string their second straight New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) victory in a row tonight as they cruised to an 8-1 victory over Becker College. With the win, Lesley moves to an even 3-3 on the year, 2-2 in conference play, while Becker falls to 1-2 on the year.

The Lynx got off to a hot start as they swept doubles in a commanding fashion. Senior Nick Mattox (Pasadena, Md.) and junior Mike Kaufman (Boca Raton, Fla.) took No. 1 doubles over Branden Parkhouse (Rancho Cucamunga, Calif.) and Troy Scott, 8-1. Alex Zhitnik (West Hartford, Conn.) and Thomas Tedesco (Bristol, Conn.) rolled to the same result in No. 2 doubles for the Lynx, topping Becker junior David Graham (Rancho Cucamunga, Calif.) and Viktor Tuurala while the team of Jimmy Paulsen (Monroe, Conn.) and Jordan Santos (Middlebury, Conn.) wrapped up doubles for Lesley with an 8-3 win over Devon Dubuque (Cranston, R.I.) and Jeffrey Labby.

Nick Mattox and Mike Kaufman both earned 6-1, 6-1 victories in No. 1 and No. 4 singles, respectively. Mattox topped Troy Scott while Kaufman bested Devon Dubuque.

After dropping the first set 4-6, Alex Zhitnik battled back to take the next two over Branden Parkhouse 6-3, 10-5 and give the Lynx a decisive 5-0 lead.

Lesley junior Thomas Tedesco outlasted David Graham in a tight No. 3 matchup, 7-6, 7-6 while sophomore Jordan Santos took No. 6 singles, 8-2, over Jeffrey Labby.

The Hawks grabbed their only win of the night when Viktor Tuurala edged Jimmy Paulsen in No. 5 singles, 6-2, 6-3.

Lesley will look to extend their win streak to three matches tomorrow when they partake in some more NECC action when they travel to Newbury College at 12:00p. Becker will also be back in action tomorrow when they play host to NECC foe Mitchell College at 1:00p.
