Regis Slams Lynx, Take Sweep in Victory

WESTON, Mass. – Regis College picked up its second-straight victory in as many days as the Pride defeated Lesley University, 9-0, on Thursday night in New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) men's tennis action. The Pride improve their record to 2-8 overall and 2-0 in the NECC, while Lesley drops to 1-2 and 0-1 in league games.

Regis made quick work of the Lynx in doubles play as the Pride grabbed an early 3-0 lead. Michael Beluch (Lynn, Mass.) and Jeff Parrish (Framingham, Mass.) posted an 8-1 win in No. 1 doubles over Nick Mattox (Pasadena, Md.) and Roman Pham (Lynnfield, Mass.), while Andy White (Bozeman, Mont.) and Austin Nace (Sarasota, Fla.) added an 8-0 sweep in No. 2 doubles over Thomas Tedesco (Bristol, Conn.) and Mike Kaufman (Boca Raton, Fla.).

The senior duo of Sophorn Nop (Lowell, Mass.) and Matt Smolko (Pelham, N.H.) rounded out doubles play with an 8-0 win over Jimmy Paulsen (Monroe, Conn.) and Jordan Santos (Middlebury, Conn.).

The Pride swept all six singles matches to take home the 9-0 victory. Beluch defeated Mattox in the top singles spot, 6-0, 6-1, while Parrish added a 6-2, 6-0 win over Mike Kaufman at No. 3 singles. Sophorn Nop posted a 6-0, 6-1 win versus Roman Pham and his classmate Mouhamed Diallo (Boston, Mass.) picked up his first NECC singles win of the year with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Jimmy Paulsen. Biruk Legesse (Marion, Mass.) recorded his second-straight singles victory with a straight-set, 6-2, 6-2 win over Jordan Santos.

Lesley's Thomas Tedesco took the opening set, 6-4, from Andy White, but White responded with a 6-4 win of his own before downing Tedesco at the No. 2 position with a 10-4 win in the deciding set.

The Pride return to action on Monday afternoon when they host Becker College in a NECC matchup scheduled for 4:30 p.m. Lesley will take on Mitchell College tomorrow night in a 7:30 p.m. conference matchup.
