Lynx Swing Past Anna Maria; Grab First Win of Season

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Lesley took two-of-three in doubles and split in singles to pick up their first win of the season, 5-4, over Anna Maria College tonight at Buckingham, Browne, and Nichols. The Lynx move to 1-1 on the year while the Amcats slip to 0-3.

Dillon George (Holden, Mass.) and Calvin Weeks (Glen Ellyn, Ill.) teamed up to take first doubles over Lynx seniors Nick Mattox (Pasadena, Md.) and Alex Zhitnik (West Hartford, Conn.), 8-2. Mike Kaufman (Boca Raton, Fla.) and Thomas Tedesco (Bristol, Conn.) notched things up for Lesley with an 8-2 win of their own over Anna Maria junior Cody Brigham (Spencer, Mass.) and senior Ben Chick-Reny (Lewiston, Me.).

Senior Jimmy Paulsen (Monroe, Conn.) and sophomore Jordan Santos (Middlebury, Conn.) then put the Lynx up 2-1 heading into singles when they grabbed a 9-8 (7-4) marathon victory over LeGrand Haughton (Bensalem, Mass.) and Corey Page (West Boylston, Mass.).

George and Weeks both grabbed victories for the AMCATS in first and second singles. George topped Mattox in straight sets 6-0, 6-1, while Weeks powered through a tough first set, 6-4, and finished Zhitnik off 6-1 in the second.

Tedesco took third singles over Chick-Reny 6-4, 6-2, while Kaufman beat Brigham 6-2, 6-0 as the Lynx clung to a 4-3 advantage.

Haughton tied the match up at 4-4 when he took a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Paulsen, leaving the decision to the final match of the night. Lesley sophomore Roman Pham (Lynnfield, Mass.) came up big in his lone match of the night, taking a 6-1, 6-0 decision over Anna Maria junior Russell Braman (Northbridge, Mass.) to give the Lynx their first victory of the season.

The Lynx take the court again on Thursday when they travel to Regis College for a New England Collegiate Conference matchup. The match is set to start at 4:00p. Anna Maria will host Emerson College on Saturday, April 6th at 6:00p.
