BOSTON – Lesley University opened its 2011 campaign with a 9-0 sweep of Wheelock College in New England Collegiate Conference men's tennis play at the Winsor School Saturday afternoon.   

Preseason picks to finish second in the NECC, the Lynx looked to be in midseason form on Saturday, as all six singles competitors won in two sets, with five players winning their first set 6-0 in both teams' season openers.

Reigning All-NECC First Teamer David Newton (Hamden, CT/Hamden) defeated Wilson Chang (Lee, MA/Lee), 6-0, 6-3 in first singles, and fellow 2010 All-NECC First Team honoree Christian Domingo (Granada Hills, CA/Delphi Academy) knocked off Irene Gonzalez (Madrid, Spain/Marianapolis Prep), 6-0, 6-1, in fifth singles.

Nick Mattox (Pasadena, MD/Chesapeake) and Alex Zhitnik (West Hartford, CT/Conard) both All-NECC Honorable Mention selections a year ago, earned victories in second and fourth singles, respectively.

Playing in his first collegiate match, freshman Paolo DiPietrantonio (Cambridge, MA/Rindge & Latin) was flawless, topping Jeffrey Silveria (Wilmington, MA/Merrimack Valley), 6-0, 6-0, and teaming with fellow frosh Thomas Rogalski (Middletown, CT/Middletown) to earn an 8-0 third doubles victory.

At 1-0, Lesley opens 2011 tied atop the NECC with 2010 champion Mitchell College, while Wheelock falls to 0-1.
