Men’s tennis clean sweeps Wheelock 9-0

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Not one Lesley University men's tennis player lost a set in a Lynx 9-0 victory over New England Collegiate Conference opponent Wheelock College on Tuesday evening.  The Lynx improved to 5-2 (4-2 NECC) while the Wildcats dropped to 1-7 (1-4 NECC).

The highlight of the day was the #2 singles match up between Lesley's Nick Mattox (PASADENA, Md./Chesapeake) and Wheelock's Robert Venning (GREENFIELD, N.H./Con-Val Regional).  Mattox took the match in straight sets 6-4, 7-5 but Venning fought hard to stay in the match.  Mattox improved to 4-3 in #2 singles play.

David Newton (HAMDEN, Conn./Hamden) won his #1 singles match over Wilson Chang (LEE, Mass./Lee) 6-2, 6-3 and improved to 4-3 in that category.

Scott Wheeler (EAST HAMPTON, Conn./East Hampton) and Tyler Reeves (COVENTRY, Conn./Coventry) each won their respective matches with straight sets without losing a point 6-0, 6-0.

In doubles play, all three duos won their matches handily with Newton and Alex Zhitnik (WEST HARTFORD, Conn./Conard) winning 8-2, Mattox and Christian Domingo (LOS ANGELES, Calif./College of the Canyons) winning 8-2, and Wheeler and Reeves winning 8-0.
