Men’s tennis cruises to 9-0 win over Newbury

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Lesley University men’s tennis team stayed hot with a 9-0 win over New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) opponent Newbury College on Sunday afternoon, improving to 4-1 (3-1 NECC) while the Nighthawks dropped to 0-7 (0-4 NECC).

David Newton (HAMDEN, Conn./Hamden) defeated Newbury’s #1 singles player in straight sets 6-2, 6-1 and followed up with a  #1 doubles win with Alex Zhitnik (WEST HARTFORD, Conn./Conard) by a score of 8-1 to lead the Lynx.

Freshman Nick Mattox (PASADENA, Md./Chesapeake) won the #2 singles match 6-1, 6-0 as he improved to 3-2 in singles play this season.  Mattox along with Christian Domingo (LOS ANGELES, Calif./College of the Canyons) were victorious in #2 doubles with a score of 8-2.

Domingo continued his unbeaten streak in 2010 with a straight set win in the #5 singles match and is now 4-0 in singles, including 3-0 against NECC opponents.

Tyler Reeves (COVENTRY, Conn./Coventry) never lost a game all day by winning 6-0, 6-0 in #6 singles and 8-0 in #3 doubles with Scott Wheeler (EAST HAMPTON, Conn./East Hampton).

The Lynx will take on Regis College on Friday, April 16 starting at 4:00 pm in Weston, Massachusetts.
