
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The Lesley University men's tennis team matched up against Mitchell College and Becker College over the weekend and ended up with a 1-1 (1-1 NECC) record. The Lynx were beat by Mitchell 9-0 on the road Saturday and rebounded nicely against Becker with a 6-3 triumph.
Saturday vs. Mitchell College
The Lynx dropped their first match of the season to Mitchell College 9-0. The Mariners were dominant in victory as each singles player managed to win in straight sets.
The closest Lesley came to winning a match was in both their #1 and #2 doubles matches. The duos of Sonny Ljutica (Shenendehowa, N.Y.)/Fran Cusick (Lexington, Mass.) and David Newton (Hamden, Conn.)/Peter Parrales (Otterberg, Germany) lost their respective matches 8-6 and 9-8.
Sunday vs. Becker College
On the doubles court, the Lynx swept the Hawks in each of the three matches. Ljutica and Newton handled their opponents 8-3, Cusick and Alejandro Lazo (Boston, Mass.) won 8-2, and Dory LeCount (Waltham, Mass.) and Parrales squeaked by with a 9-7 win.
Becker's #1 singles beat Ljutica in a tight match that went to three sets by a score of 6-7 (3-7), 6-2, 7-5. The Hawks were also able to snatch the #4 and #5 singles matches.
Newton, Cusick and LeCount won their matches and Lesley earned the 6-3 team victory over Becker.
The Lynx will host Johnson State College on Sunday, April 4 at 2:00 pm while the Hawks travel to Anna Maria College on Tuesday for a 3:30 pm match.
