CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The Lesley University men's tennis team earned their first victory in the program's inaugural season against Mitchell College, beating the Pequots 5-4. The win improves Lesley's record to 1-5 (0-4 North Atlantic Conference) while Mitchell drops to 2-5.
The Lynx won two out of the three doubles matches to take the doubles competition point. Zach Rocha (New Bedford, Mass.) and Fran Cusick (Lexington, Mass.) won their match 8-5 while Scott Wheeler (East Hampton, Conn.) and Mike Labagh (Elizabethtown, Pa.) were victorious 8-2.
In singles play, number one Rocha controlled his match winning in straight sets 6-0, 6-1. Dory LeCount (Waltham, Mass.) was solid as well, winning her match 6-1, 6-1.
With the two squads tied 4-4 in team points, the final singles match was an exciting one as Alejandro Lazo (Boston, Mass.) came back from a first set loss to win the match for the Lynx. Lazo dropped the tie-breaker in the first set 4-7 to lose the first set 6-7. He gained his composure, however, and took the next two sets 6-2, 6-3 to win the match for Lesley.
The Lynx will travel to Newbury College on Tuesday April 15 for a 3:30 p.m. match. Mitchell will next face Johnson & Wales on Wednesday April 16 at 3:30 p.m.
