Lesley competes in first ever men's tennis matches

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The Lesley University men's tennis program kicked off their inaugural season this past weekend, but lost both matches they played against Mitchell College and North Atlantic Conference opponent Wheelock College.

In their very first match of the 2008 season against Mitchell College, the Lynx fell to the Pequots 7-2.

Lesley was unable to gain a point in their doubles competitions, but in singles play, freshman Peter Parrales (Otterberg, GERMANY) and sophomore Scott Wheeler (East Hampton, Conn.) walked away victorious.  Both players won in straight sets as Parrales won 6-3, 6-4 and Wheeler won 6-2, 6-3.

Alejandro Lazo (Boston, Mass.) almost pulled off a win in his singles match after winning the first set 6-4.  But after the dropping the next set, Lazo's Mitchell opponent was able to take the deciding third set 7-5.

On Sunday against Wheelock, the doubles combination of Lazo and Wheeler were able to pull of a close 9-7 victory, but in the singles match ups, the Wildcats won five of the seven competitions.

Lazo and Wheeler took the momentum from their doubles win and translated it into straight set victories over their opponents.

Freshman Dory LeCount (Waltham, Mass.) was impressive in the first set of her match winning 6-2, but eventually lost in a tight third set 11-9.

Despite the back-to-back losses this weekend, the team will look to improve in their next match against Newbury College on Tuesday April 1 at 3:30 p.m.
