THE LEAD – Maine Maritime Academy scored three goals over a six minute span to spoil the season-finale for Lesley University in a 3-1 North Atlantic Conference men's soccer final on Saturday afternoon at Minuteman Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Lynx played a strong first half, leading much of the action 1-0 thanks to a goal from junior forward Nick Wadleigh (Glastonbury, Conn.) in the 13th minute of play. The striker took a feed from DJ Cronin (New York, N.Y.) and converted his team-leading eighth goal of the year to give the hosts an early one-goal edge.
  • The Mariners evened the action with just 2:16 to play in the half to make it a 1-1 game heading into the break. Gabriel Toledo set up John-John Dickenson for the marker, a crushing blow to Lesley just before the halftime intermission.
  • MMA used the momentum to open the second frame strong, scoring the game-winner just 2:05 into the stanza. Connor Phelan's strike proved to be the game-winner with Dickenson assisting on the tally to make it 2-1.
  • Just 1:42 later, Dickenson scored his second marker of the match to put the Mariners ahead 3-1 which proved to be the final.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • Both sides finished the day with 11 shots while the Lynx owned an 8-2 edge in corners.
  • Vladimir Ouellette earned the win in net holding Lesley scoreless in the second half, making three saves.
  • The two goals for Dickenson were his third career brace while the five total points was a new single-game career-high.
  • LU senior Josiah Williams (Durham, N.C.) finished his career making one stop to round out his tenure at Lesley with 295 stops.
