THE LEAD – The Lesley men's soccer team wrapped up their weekend in Maine with a 1-0 loss to North Atlantic Conference (NAC) foe Husson University Sunday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Husson was aggressive in the opening moments of Sunday's contest. Thanks to this playstyle, the Eagles earned a penalty kick at 15:27. After Florian Gasser missed the initial attempt, he corraled his miss and put his shot past Lesley netminder Aiden Hendricks (Richmond, Va.) for the early 1-0 lead.
- The Eagles had numerous chances in the first to increase their lead, but thanks to Hendricks' sturdy play for the rest of the period, Husson never found the back of the net.
- As the second got underway, Lesley had their opportunities to even things at one, including a shot by DJ Cronin (New York, N.Y.) at 45:46, but it went just wide to the right.
- Both squads' defenses kept their respective clubs in the game. Neither side allowed a goal the rest of the second period, which allowed Husson to hold on for the 1-0 NAC victory.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Hendricks finished the afternoon with four saves in 74:04 minutes of action.
- Husson outshot Lesley by a 20-3 margin Sunday afternoon.
- Three different Lynx had shots in today's game. Cronin, Miguel Vasconcelos (Sharon, Mass.), and Marc Kenny Derac (Waltham, Mass.) all had one shot.
- Gasser's goal Sunday is his fourth of the year.
UP NEXT
- Lesley will have some much-deserved time off as the squad returns home on Saturday, October 19, for a noon NAC contest against UMaine Farmington. Saturday's game also marks Lesley's Athletics Alumni Weekend.
