THE LEAD – The Lesley University men's soccer team headed up north to take on Husson University in North Atlantic Conference action. However, the squad fell 3-2 on Saturday afternoon at John P. Boucher Field.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Both sides played hard for the opening 20 minutes as neither side generated much offense. However, at the 21:20 mark, the Lynx broke the scoreless tie thanks to an Anthony DeNicola (Saunderstown, R.I.) goal.
- The first-year forward made a nifty move near the right top corner of the goalie box, and after he got away from his defender, he rocketed in his shot in the left corner of the net.
- As the first period came to a close (41:25), Husson evened things at one off the boot of Pedro Molina, and both sides headed into halftime and tied at one.
- Later in the second (68:11), Lesley recaptured the lead thanks to Nick Wadleigh (Glastonbury, Conn.) after DeNicola sent a beautiful cross pass just outside the goalie box.
- However, a little over a minute later (69:22), the Eagles tied things up again courtesy of Mario Alverez. Not long after their game-tying goal, Molina potted his second goal of the day at 75:06, which ended up being the game-winning goal as Husson held on for the 3-2 victory.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Wadleigh's scored his team-leading sixth goal on Saturday.
- DeNicola's goal on Saturday was the second of his career, and his assist was the fourth of the year.
- Josiah Williams (Durham, N.C.) was once again in net and ended the day with four saves.
- Husson ended up outshooting Lesley on the afternoon, 12-6.
- Despite the Eagles having more corner kicks (4-2), the Lynx held that advantage after the first by a 2-1 margin.
