THE LEAD – Lesley University scored a goal in each half to power past the University of Maine Presque Isle, 2-0, Saturday afternoon in NCAA Division III and North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Men's Soccer action at Minuteman Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Junior Nick Wadleigh (Glastonbury, Conn.) found the back of the net in the
  • Both teams attempted three shots on goal in the first half.
  • The game remained a one-goal affair until the 81st minute when senior DJ Cronin (New York, N.Y.) gave the hosts a little cushion with his first career marker. The midfielder converted a penalty kick to make it 2-0 with under 10 to play.
  • Sophomore Tyler Fortin (Farmington, Conn.) almost made it 3-0 minutes later with a left-footed strike that hit the crossbar but the two-goal lead stuck to help the Lynx to the senior day victory.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • Lesley senior goalkeeper Josiah Williams (Durham, N.C) made three saves to pick up the shutout victory. The win was his third of the season.
  • UMPI keeper Samuel Paladino made four stops in the setback for the Owls.
  • Lesley outshot UMPI 12-5 on the afternoon including a 9-2 edge in the second half.
  • The Lynx improve to 3-0 on the year at home with the victory.

OF NOTE

  • Prior to the start of the match, the Lesley University athletic department honored Williams and Cronin in a brief Senior Day ceremony.
