THE LEAD – Despite a strong first-half effort, the Lesley University men's soccer team fell to Dean College by a 3-1 final in their season opener on Friday afternoon at Minuteman Field in Lexington, Mass.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Lynx scored the first goal of the afternoon 36 minutes into the first half on a rebound by freshman Ajauni Monteque assisted by Marc Kenny Derac. Kenny Derac fired the initial shot attempt past the Dean keeper, hitting the post before Monteque finished home the rebound for his first collegiate marker.
  • The Bulldogs evened the score out with a goal from Ryan Bell, assisted by Seamus Doherty in the 64th minute of play to knot the score at 1-1.
  • Dean netted the game-winner just three minutes later on a goal by Bryce King and another assist from Doherty. Following a Lesley foul, Doherty bent in a direct kick deep into the Lynx penalty area that King headed home to pull the visitors ahead, 2-1 just 2:32 after their first score.
  • Melvin Alves added some insurance for Dean, breaking free on the right wing and finishing an unassisted score with less than seven minutes to play in the match to account for the 3-1 final.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • The 3-1 final matched the 2022 opener for both squads a year ago and was in similar fashion as Lesley held a 1-0 lead in that contest before the Bulldogs came from behind with three late scores to sneak out with a 3-1 victory.
  • Jake Godwin made a pair of saves to earn the win for Dean while Lesley junior keeper Josiah Williams stopped seven shots in the setback.

UP NEXT

  • The Lynx return to the field Sunday, September 3rd with a home match-up against Keene State starting at 4:00 PM.
