ENC Spoils Season-Opener for Men's Soccer

ENC Spoils Season-Opener for Men's Soccer

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – A pair first half goals spoiled the season-opener for the Lesley University as Eastern Nazarene College topped the Lynx 2-0 this evening in non-conference action at Edward Field. The Lions open their season at 1-0 while the Lynx fall to 0-1.

Lesley will look to get in the win column when they return to Edward Field and play host to Mount Ida College at 3:00p on Saturday. Eastern Nazarene will also return to the pitch on Saturday and open up a four-match homestand when they welcome Framingham State at 7:00p.

After a pair of ENC shots were turned away by Lesley keeper James Webb (San Francisco, Calif.) in the opening minutes of the first half, the Lions finally broke through in the 23rd minute as freshman Seth Weaver (Dillsburg, Pa.) potted a feed from junior Andrew Nelson (Burtonsville, Md.) for his first tally of his collegiate career.

After the goal, the Lynx would go on the offensive but could not capitalize. Freshman Angel Ruiz (Phoenix, Ariz.) and senior Harrison Sidell (Newhall, Calif.) both had shots saved by Lions goalkeeper Jameson McFarland (Jacksonville, Fla.).

ENC would come right back and give themselves a 2-0 cushion before half as Nelson would do it himself this time, finding the back of the net for his first marker of the year.

Lesley continued to pepper the net to start the second, but once again McFarland was there to stump attempts from Ruiz and junior Anthony Vitta (Oceanside, N.Y.).

The Lynx outshot the Lions by a 17-9 margin while ENC held a slim 6-4 margin in corner kick opportunities.

McFarland earned the win with six saves in between the pipes while Webb suffered the loss despite turning back three shots.
