CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – After upsetting the top-seeded Norwich University Cadets with a 2-1 win on Wednesday, the Lesley University men's soccer team earned their first-ever trip to the ECAC Semifinals where they will square off with Colby-Sawyer College on Saturday at 2:00p on the campus of Endicott College. Endicott, the second-seed in the tournament, will open the day as they host sixth-seeded Curry College at 11:00a.
SCOUTING LESLEY
Despite falling behind 1-0 in the first two minutes of play, the Lynx stormed back with a pair of goals in the first half and maintained a 2-1 lead to secure the first ECAC victory in program history. Sophomore Erik Johansen (West Harrison, N.Y.) knotted the match at 1-1 with a tally at 5:39 before classmate Mahmoud Chabarek (Allepo, Syria) closed out the half with a goal from 35 yards that gave the eighth-seeded Lynx the 2-1 edge they would not relinquish.
Johansen paces the Lynx offense with nine goals on the season while senior Jordan Santos (Middlebury, Conn.) has tallied four goals and team-leading eight assists on the year. Junior Ryan Richardson (Santa Barbara, Calif.) is second on the team with 17 points as he found the back of the net five times to go with his seven helpers.
Junior keeper Chase Donley (Elizabethtown, Pa.) made four stops in the win over Norwich as he improved to 8-6-4 on the year.
SCOUTING COLBY-SAWYER
The Chargers moved on to the ECAC Semifinals following a thrilling 4-3 overtime victory over Albertus Magnus in Quarterfinal action. Colby-Sawyer senior Carlton Wheeler-Omiunu(Bellingham, Mass.) scored 47-seconds into overtime on a breakaway goal to lift the Chargers past the Falcons. Senior keeper Nick Austin (Westerly, R.I.) made three saves for the hosts in the contest.
The Chargers offense is led by freshman Denali Sexton (Barrington, R.I.) who has 12 goals and six assists for 30 points in his rookie campaign while senior Alex Ortega (Milton, Vt.) has 29 points on 11 goals and seven assists. Austin has been spectacular in goal for the Chargers. The senior compiled a 12-4-1 record and just a 0.86 GAA to go with nine shutouts.
