Lynx stay perfect in NECC play, 2-1 in double-OT over Mitchell

CAMBRIDGE, MA -- First-place Lesley University stayed perfect in New England Collegiate Conference play at 7-0-0 (10-4-2 overall) with its second straight thrilling overtime victory, besting Mitchell College 2-1 in double-overtime on an Ari Sinanis score in the 109th minute.

Like he did in the Lynx 1-0 overtime win at Elms on Saturday, Lesley freshman Ryan Richardson (Santa Barbara, CA/Santa Barbara) again played a hand in the game-winner. Rather than scoring, this time he distributed, as the NECC Rookie of the Week spotted Sinanis (Guilford, CT/Guilford) on a cross in the box at 108:49 for the game-winner.

Mitchell (6-7, 4-2 NECC) broke a scoreless tie late in the first half and went into halftime with a 1-0 lead. Frank Williams (Westerly, RI/Westerly) tallied his team-leading sixth strike of the season at 41:11 on a breakaway after a pass from fellow sophomore Jason Kirby, and the Mariners went into the intermission thinking upset leading 1-0.

In spite of a drastic advantage in shots, it wasn't until the last 10 minutes that the Lynx landed the equalizer. Senior Darius Koep (Pittstown, NJ/Del-Val) fielded a long Sean Randall (Fremont, CA/Washington High) throw-in from the corner flag that sailed into the box, sending a header past Mariners keeper Ramazan Sinani (Waterbury, CT/Crosby), knotting the score at 1-1.

Through 90 minutes, Lesley outshot Mitchell 20-3 -- including a 12-0 advantage in the second half -- and came up empty on the only three shots of the first overtime, as Sinani made two saves in a 15-second span in the 99th minute. Into the second extra frame, the sophomore keeper then denied Richardson on a pair of attempts.

A shot from Mitchell's Michael Gallimore sailed high in the 109th minute, and 36 seconds later, at 108:49, Sinanis' sixth goal of the season sent the Lynx to victory.

Sinani was outstanding in goal, making a match-high seven saves, while Lesley keeper Nathan Trucks stopped two Mariners shots for the win.

On the night, Lesley outshot Mitchell 27-5.

The Lynx return to play on Friday night at 8:00, honoring the team's 12 seniors on Senior Night against non-conference foe Anna Maria College. Mitchell plays host to Regis College on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
