Lynx can't land equalizer as Babson bests Lesley, 2-0

BABSON PARK, MA -- Trailing 1-0 for most of the afternoon, Lesley could not land the game-tying goal, and Babson added a late insurance goal in the Beavers 2-0 win in non-conference men's soccer play Saturday afternoon.

Babson, which entered the game ranked No. 25 nationally in the d3soccer.com Top 25 Poll, got on the board at 8:14, when Mike Fisher's fourth goal of the season beat Lynx keeper Nigel Leahy inside the left post. The Beavers went into halftime with the 1-0 lead, outshooting Lesley 11-3 for the first half.

Paul Vasconcelos' Lynx came out more aggressive in the second, with Lesley earning the first three shots of the period but still coming up empty. Babson's 1-0 lead held until the final minutes, when it added an insurance goal in the unlikeliest of fashions.

After Lesley midfielder Darius Koep's team-high second shot on goal was saved by Beavers keeper Jackson Klein, the goalie's punt was fielded by Ayo Iwuagwu, who chipped Leahy for the Beavers second score at 84:13 and made it a 2-0 final.

Lesley outshot Babson 8-7 in the second half, though the Beavers held an 18-11 advantage in shots on the day.

Leahy made four saves in net, while Klein stopped seven Lynx shots for the shutout.

Sophomore Jordan Santos tied Koep with two shots on goal, and senior Ari Sinanis also tallied a team-high two tries for the Lynx, which fall to 6-4-2.

Lesley returns to play on Thursday at 3:00 p.m. in NECC action at Newbury.
